Olive Garden Breadsticks Copy Cat Recipe

Even though I already included one type of breadstick this week, when I decided to make the stuffed chicken marsala I couldn't not try the breadsticks to go with it!  (yes, I often use double negatives...)

These were easy and quick.  Unlike most breads, these only raise one time.  I would use a little less flour in these next time.  It was a tad bit too much, and then I could have made prettier breadsticks. They tasted pretty close to the real thing, and were yummy!

Olive Garden Breadsticks Copy Cat Recipe
Recipe from HERE

1 1/2 cups warm water (between 110 - 120 degrees F)
1 package active dry yeast
4 cups all-purpose flour (not quite 4)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon salt

In a large bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water and allow to sit for 10 minutes, covered. Mixture should be frothy.

Add flour and salt to yeast mixture. Add melted butter. Mix with paddle attachment of stand mixer or wooden spoon until fully combined.

Knead dough for a few minutes just until dough is smooth. Do not overknead
Grease a cookie sheet. Pull off 10-12 pieces of dough and roll out into bread sticks.
Cover the dough and let sit in a warm place for 45 minutes to an hour.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F and once heated, pop in the bread sticks. In microwave, combine the following:

4 T unsalted butter
1 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoons salt

After 6 or 7 minutes, brush the bread sticks with half the butter mixture.  Then continue to bake for 6 or 7 minutes longer until lightly browned.  Remove from the oven and brush the other half of the butter on the sticks.
Good luck waiting for them to cool to try them after they are done baking!  :)

Enjoy!
